TUMMY TUCK (Abdominoplasty)

Tummy Tuck or abdominoplasty involves removal of excess fat, tightening of the loose muscles and removal of excess skin. This creates an abdomen that is smoother and flatter, often enhancing the body image.
Tummy tuck is helpful in women after childbirth with loose skin and muscles. It is very effective in those patients who have lost excessive weight by successful dieting or bariatric surgery, but now have loose, hanging skin in the lower abdomen.
Procedure
During abdominoplasty, the incision is marked within the bikini line and the redundant fold of the skin is removed. If someone also has excess of fat, liposuction is done along with the skin resection. The abdominal wall muscles are tightened when loose, to restore the tone. If there is a hernia, it is also repaired at the same time. The belly button is relocated.
A Mini tummy tuck uses a shorter incision and is performed when the correction is required only in the area below the belly button.
Aftercare
A pressure garment is to be worn for 4-6 weeks. The usual hospital stay is 1 to 2 days, depending upon the individual's response. The scar gradually softens with time.
