GENITAL COSMETIC SURGERY

Genital cosmetic surgery or modification refers to change in appearance of human genitals. Some forms of genital alteration are performed at the behest of an adult, with his or her full and informed consent. Genital cosmetic surgery is possible for both Male and Female gender.

Vaginal Rejuvination (tightening)

The vaginal tone can become lax due to repeated childbirth and aging. This can lead to decreased sexual pleasure for both the partners and decreased self esteem of the person.

This can be corrected by tightening the muscle and removal of excess skin and mucosa. It is a day-care procedure.

Vaginal delivery is usually associated with an episiotomy or incision on the bottom of the vagina to enlarge the opening for passage of the baby. This is repaired shortly after the delivery but the repair is often inadequate. The vaginal opening is still large and loose, the distance between the vagina and anal opening is shortened, and the area is often unsightly. A perineoplasty closes the opening and lengthens the perineum (area between the vagina and anus), which helps to rejuvenate the appearance of the vagina. This is usually combined with vaginal tightening and other genital cosmetic procedures.

Hymenoplasty (Revirgination):

Hymen is a thin membrane covering the vaginal opening. It may be disrupted due to sports like gymnastics and horse riding apart from sexual intercourse. Recreation of the hymen can be performed as a social indication.

Hymenoplasty should be ideally planned 4 weeks before marriage, for adequate healing. It is a day-care procedure and the patient can go home on the same day.

Labiaplasty

This refers to the procedure by which the labia minora is reduced surgically if they are enlarged. In normal course, the labia minora are smaller and hidden within the labia majora, as in the younger age groups. So, this is an attempt to bring it back to the way it was. Some times this maybe be accompanied by fat grafting of the labia majora to increase their volume & give them a more youthful appearance.
